Must I file for Social Security if I apply for disability retirement?

It is a requirement if you wish to apply for OPM disability retirement to apply for social security disability. You don’t need to actually be accepted for social security disability but it is a requirement that you make that initial application and provide the confirmation of application when you apply for OPM disability.
